Ultra Violet – Pantone colour of the Year 2018

A dramatic and thoughtful purple shade which makes a statement. It communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future, this is according to the Pantone website where Pantone colour of the year 2018 is described.

As individuals worldwide become more fascinated and intrigued with colour and realize its ability to convey deep messages and meanings, designers and brands can feel empowered to use colour to inspire and influence. This is good news for interior designers and in turn gives individuals confidence to use more colour in their interiors.

Colour inspires connection, creates atmosphere, enlivens spaces, brings depth and definition, and can bring a feeling of excitement and joy and Pantone's colour of the year 2018 is one of these.

I know it can be easier to shy away from colour and I often hear this saying, “I am not brave enough to use colour”. In this case I recommend that you introduce colour in small amounts to begin with and then as your confidence grows so then the amount of colour you use can grow too.

Suggestions on how to use this colour

This ultra violet pantone colour is vibrant and strong.  To create an immediate impact in a neutral scheme introduce it in small items, this changes the space instantly. This colour will work amazingly well with lots of greys, deep cream and beige, it is a fabulous combination with deep red and lots of greens. It is an easy colour to add as an accent.
